Cut protection pants

Cut protection pants are a very important part of personal protective clothing, especially for woodworking, forestry, tree care, gardening and landscaping, to prevent accidents and injuries caused by the saw. The cut protection inserts of the forestry pants provide more safety, are abrasion resistant and protect the wearers from serious injuries with a special protective layer.

For employees of rescue services and in the construction trade, leg warmers that are easy to put on by means of Velcro fasteners are particularly practical for reducing the risk of injury. They are worn as an additional layer of clothing whenever cut protection is needed.

In the GenXtreme store we offer cut protection pants of cut protection class 1 and cut protection class 2 for men and women.

Cut protection pants from PFANNER and KÜBLER at GenXtreme

In our assortment you will find cut protection pants from the premium manufacturers PFANNER and KÜBLER in different price segments, which will serve you well as a professional and are worth their price. Both manufacturers produce high-quality forestry pants, which are equipped with a cut protection insert. Thanks to the insert, the pants provide optimal cut protection from the chain of the chainsaw and other equipment used during forest and forestry work.

We offer PFANNER and KÜBLER forestry pants as pants with waistband and dungarees in various sizes and fits. The pants are suitable for both men and women in the appropriate size. Some models are equipped with a stretch functional fabric and an elastic gusset. Depending on the model, the pants are equipped with side pockets and back pockets. Other functional features of cut protection pants are

  • reinforced knee protection,
  • ventilation slits and
  • Stretchability in the crotch area.

You can also achieve cut protection and thus more safety at work by wearing leg warmers. Leg warmers are a cut protection solution for quick use that you simply wear over your clothing without having to take off your shoes or boots. In the GenXtreme store you will find leg warmers from PFANNER, whose leg sides can be adjusted with a wide Velcro closure. The reflective stripes provide better visibility and thus more safety in bad weather conditions and at dusk.

Materials and properties of cut protection pants

The combination of different materials, such as cotton, polyester and Cordura®, gives the protective pants freedom of movement and tear resistance. Many cut protection pants have ruler pockets and zippered side pockets that provide storage space for tools as well as work materials. Reinforced pocket openings provide a high level of durability.

As required workwear in some industries, cut-resistant pants are worn year-round. Both in summer and in the cold season, maximum wearing comfort must be ensured. In warm temperatures, a breathable fabric and ventilation slits are essential. The functional fabric made of Cocona® processed by PFANNER, for example, reliably draws perspiration and heat away from the body, so that the work pants are comfortable to wear even at high temperatures.

In winter, warming properties are more important. Some protective pants therefore not only have a tear-resistant outer fabric, but also a well-warming lining fabric. If you decide on dungarees, then the bib warms your upper body as an additional layer of clothing. PFANNER provides the front of the cut protection pants partly with the robust GLADIATOR fabric, which is not only water and dirt repellent, but also contributes to the longevity of the workwear due to its stable nature. A zip-on kidney protection, which you can also find here in the store in the category for accessories, offers additional comfort in wind and weather. In addition, you can buy cut-resistant gloves.

What does class 1 and class 2 mean for cut protection pants?

Work clothing is classified into different protection classes and standards, and this also applies to cut protection pants. The higher the protection class, the more reliable the protection against injuries. You can find the required protection class for your job in the respective occupational regulation or in the recommendations of the Board of Trustees for Forest Work and Technology (KWF).

These are the characteristics of the protection classes:

  • Protection class 0: up to 16 m/second
  • Protection class 1: up to 20 m/second
  • Protection class 2: up to 24 m/second
  • Protection class 3: up to 28 m/second

The protection classes indicate how fast the speed of the chain of a chainsaw may be so that the trousers provide sufficient protection against cutting injuries. In protection class 1, the chain speed may therefore be a maximum of 20 meters per second, in protection class 2 it is 28 meters per second.

If the chainsaw comes into contact with the outer material, the fibers of the protective layer wrap around the chainsaw's drive wheel and stop the machine within a very short time. Our cut protection pants have passed various tests and meet the highest requirements.

Good to know: The higher the protection class of the workwear, the less freedom of movement is available to you. The level of protection class is also reflected in the weight.

Cut protection form A, B and C

In addition to the protection classes, cut protection pants are also distinguished between cut protection forms that protect against injuries in the leg area. Form A pants have cut protection limited to the front of the legs, as required, for example, by chainsaw operators during timber harvesting operations. Type C cut protection pants protect the wearer on the front and back of the legs, providing all-around protection. Especially if you have less experience with chainsaws, a particularly high protective effect of the cut protection clothing is important. Cut protection form B is rarely in demand and should be seen as a compromise of the other two forms.

Choosing the right cut protection trousers

When choosing the right cut protection pants, you should consider what chain speed you usually work with. The cut protection class and the chain speed of your chainsaw are important to choose the right cut protection. PFANNER produces special cut protection models, such as the Arborist waistband trousers as type A and type C, so that you can also opt for double-sided leg protection if required.

In addition to the chain speed and the position of the cut protection, your personal preferences regarding properties and the processed materials are also important. Before you search our online store for the right cut protection pants or other cut protection clothing, you can read the most important points that you should consider when comparing and buying cut protection pants:

  • Select the protection class required for your industry and activity.
  • Choose a model with reinforced knee protection.
  • Ventilation slits are an advantage.
  • A stretchy crotch area gives you more freedom of movement.
  • High breathability is ensured by special materials.
  • Work materials and tools can be stored safely in zippered pockets.

You can find more information at the Kuratorium für Waldarbeit und Forsttechnik e.V. (KWF). The non-profit association provides information and advice to stakeholders in the forestry, wood and bioenergy sectors. The KWF's work focuses on the testing and trialing of personal protective clothing. In addition to cut protection pants, this also includes helmets and safety footwear. Products with the KWF-Profi or KWF-Standard test mark enjoy particularly high acceptance in the industry.
