Safety shoes S1 - A brief overview

A safety shoe of safety class S1 represents the simplest of the three safety classes. S1 is characterized by a protective toe cap. Colloquially still called steel toe caps, aluminum or plastic toe caps are now often used, which also withstand a load of 200 joules according to the EN 20345 standard. Thus the toes are protected above all from the front and above. It doesn't matter if you bump into something or if tools or building materials fall onto the cap. 200 joules correspond approximately to a weight of 1,500 kg or a weight of about 20 kg falling on the work shoe from a height of one meter. Work shoes with this standard guarantee protection against the forces acting on them, but you have to accept a reduction in other safety criteria.

Depending on the equipment, the shoe has an oil and gasoline resistant sole, but neither a penetration protection nor water resistance. These features are only found in the S1P or S3 safety classes, where the puncture-resistant sole prevents sharp or pointed objects from injuring the foot. The puncture-resistant protective footwear is especially needed in the construction industry. The reinforcement in the heel area serves to absorb additional energy and thus protects the joints.

Safety shoes S1 and their areas of application

Safety shoes S1 are particularly suitable for forwarding agents, truck drivers and warehousemen. These occupational groups can do without a penetration protection, but they are dependent on an oil and gasoline resistant sole in case something leaks. For truck drivers, the protective toe cap of the S1 safety shoes is particularly suitable, as these offer good protection when handling heavy goods. Due to their antistatic properties, S1 safety shoes can also be used in areas where sensitive electronics and flammable or explosive substances are handled, as the voltages of these materials are low.

Safety shoes S1 from top brands for every foot type!

There is a suitable safety shoe for every foot type. Top brands such as Elten, Puma or Diadora offer the right counterpart and suitable extras for all requirements. There are safety shoes that comply with DGUV regulation 112-191 for orthopedic foot protection. And if, on top of that, you want to be a little more stylish when it comes to work protection, the company Elten, among others, offers chic alternatives. The Journey Grey Low S1 safety shoe, for example, has a very sporty design, is more reminiscent of a running shoe than a work shoe, and could certainly be worn in leisure time. The mixture of leather and microfibers makes this work shoe particularly breathable. Especially in summer temperatures, this shoe is very comfortable to wear and due to its good fit, it is still comfortable even after a long day at work. Of course, we also have shoes for ladies in our offer. The safety shoe MILA Low ESD S1 74720 has a slightly narrower cut and offers ESD, a padded shaft edge and toe protection cap as well as some other great extras.
